I have worked with Afifa for more than ten months. I was searching for a therapist as I was navigating through a stressful time during the final year of my PhD research in a pandemic.
Afifa listened to my concerns with empathy and I always felt better after sessions with her.One of the key points that I learned from therapy was to assuage my fear and anxieties and I also learned to understand myself. After my positive experience with therapy, I would definitely recommend her services.
It's been a few months since I started therapy with Afifa. I am currently at a point where not only have I started identifying my emotions and acknowledging my traumatic experience, but also feel more compassionate towards myself and others. We have looked at issues that root from the social systems, relationships and from within.
I have gained deeper and better insight into self and the world much better than before. I am satisfied and comfortable with her approach. Being a feminist practitioner, she is certainly the best for women trying to navigate their place in a patriarchal society.
I would 100% recommend her (as I already have!)
Afifa as a therapist was a blessing for me. I was introduced to her when I was facing extreme emotional turmoil and discomfort on top of dealing with a sudden lockdown and the pandemic. I had concerns about privacy due to bad previous therapy experience and then I came across Afifa. When I first talked to her, I blasted her with lots of questions, the big one being “How is just talking about my traumas going to help me feel less pain?” After one and a half years of my sessions with Afifa not only has the pain diminished, I also feel intense joy, gratitude. She is a remarkable listener and does not shy away from asking challenging questions that will help you, she helps process the darkness and through that beautiful insights are born. I have learned about healthy boundaries and the courage to be vulnerable. Her insights tend to percolate over time and in her own words, “most of the therapeutic work happens after a therapy session”. Afifa helps shape a safe space in therapy and within yourself. I highly recommend her as she is a patient listener and trustworthy.
Seeking therapy is one of the better decisions I've made and I'm so glad that Afifa guided me through that journey. Afifa was a very effective therapist - extremely kind and empathetic, and also very practical. I felt a genuine connection with her and that helped me become comfortable with therapy. Some of the strategies that she helped me with to deal with my stress, anxiety in therapy and my approach to performance have helped me a lot, and I learnt to shift how I think and deal with certain situations. From her, I also started to learn how to sit with my feelings - I still struggle with it, but therapy helped me become more conscious about it. I wholeheartedly recommend Afifa to those who want to start therapy.

If your friends and family are safe, they can be a great source of support system but they cannot be a replacement for professional help or treatment for the simple fact that- they are not a trained expert in mental and emotional health and may only be able to help from their experience and point of view. A mental health professional is trained, certified and goes through a minimum of Masters degree qualification to be a professional helper and uses a scientific approach to help you help yourself which can be through an insight-oriented and a problem-solving approach. Your therapist does not read your mind but they rather pay undivided attention to what you say and help you address that which is an obstacle to your mental well-being.
The charges vary depending upon the region you are accessing therapy from. There is also a sliding-scale and free of cost or pro-bono service available if you cannot afford the basic charges. You can use the chat option to send your query to the therapist and get a response within 48 hours.
This really depends on what you want therapy to be – either a one-time conversation or sessions across a few months or even years to give you the support, knowledge and tools to address various concerns. It can be a couple of sessions to an on-going support to optimize your mental, social, relational, spiritual and physical health. You can set your own therapy goals which can be short term or long-term. However, as few as three to six sessions are recommended to see if the process is effective and if you have found a therapist who is the right fit for you.
Healing, growth and wellbeing looks different for everyone. Most clients the therapist has worked with have shown progress, adjusted well in their lives and are able to function well. However, not all change is instantaneous or visible as soon as you start. It is a process that takes time. Remember – therapy is an investment and not a liability because you are not only investing in your health and wellbeing but also the mental health of the future generations.
The global pandemic has changed the course of mental health services and research has found zero to little difference when in comes to the effectiveness of therapy online or in-person. In fact, research indicates that the future of mental health is online, therefore more than the mode of therapy, it is the type of relationship you have with a therapist that shows effectiveness, progress and improvement.
The therapist has an experience of working with Indian, South-Asian and Muslim population between age groups of 18 to 45 years old in Urban and Rural India and across the world. The therapist has worked on a wide range of concerns like low confidence, low self-esteem, negative overthinking, systemic oppression, abuse, trauma, stress, anger, relationship difficulties, stress related to work, negative body-image, grief, suicide, boundaries, friendship, improving emotional intelligence etc. The therapist only works with individuals- not couples or families.
The therapist can speak English, Hindi and Urdu.
Most individuals book an appointment when there is a crisis. However, you do not have to wait till you hit the rock-bottom to seek professional help- anytime is the right time to consult a mental health professional. Therapy is not only a place to help you in times of crisis but also a space that helps you enhance your life, health, career and relationships.
Some signs to look out for – if you are withdrawing and isolating, if you feel unloved, uncared or unheard, if you are going through major life changes, you are noticing constant negative thoughts and unsure about what you feel, if you are noticing changes in appetite, mood, sleep and overall daily functioning. If you are procrastinating, if you have addictions, experiencing stress or burnout, if you have recently lost a loved one, relationship or a job, if you are experiencing increased distress with your relationships, friendships or work, if you are having thoughts or motivation to end your life, if you are going through injustice or violence of any kind – to name a few. Remember, while therapy is for everyone- not everyone needs therapy.
